This is one of the last pictures I took in Arequipa before leaving Peru the next day. In the background you can see the street lamps already lit, and the coming night will prevent me from taking any more photos, but it will support the party in the Plaza de Armas until late. It’s only 6 p.m. at the moment, and musicians, workers and young people are beginning to arrive. To the sounds of different instruments, groups improvise dancing and everyone mingles with simplicity and ease. In this photo, we can see a range of personalities, seemingly very different, but harmonizing in a moment of joy. Everyone expresses themselves in their own way, and it’s amazing to see in this picture that the one who seems the shyest, a little in his own world, is the one holding the megaphone!
