In early March, at the height of summer in the southern hemisphere, the sun has already set by 8:30 p.m., but the evening is just beginning. For some, it will last until the early hours of the morning. Valparaiso, which never stops living, is always illuminated by one light or another, so I titled this photo «Tres lunas» for the «three moons» that fulfill this mission. The natural moon in the clear sky takes the place of the open sun, which usually pierces the blue of the sky; the artificial moons are the street lamps with their hundreds of electrical wires, a little too tangled and sometimes the cause of short circuits and fires; then the artistic moon, seen here drawn on the ground, the dearest to Valparaiso. I didn’t know this city in winter, but I learned that the weather was very different: often foggy, the sky low, the humidity and the cold of the Atlantic cast a gray veil over the houses. This is undoubtedly when, in the port of Valparaiso, the glow of the countless artistic moons continues to keep a comforting light in the hearts of Porteños.
